Creating Memorable and Educational Experiences

Promoting Ocean Conservation and Animal Welfare

Being a member of the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks & Aquariums (AMMPA), Blue Lagoon Island can provide accurate data regarding animal welfare, conservation, and sustainability. Our research with marine mammals has contributed to the conservation and improvement in animal husbandry and welfare. The exploration and improvements to an animal’s right to thrive are important to a sustainable biodiversity. Data collected has increased our knowledge of marine animals’ survival and intellectual capability under human care compared to studies conducted in the wild.

Our nonprofit affiliate Dolphin Encounters-
Project B.E.A.C.H allows us to provide unique opportunities for marine education in an informal setting for local and international educators and children. To promote best practices and sustainability we also work closely with several businesses to incorporate their concerns for the ocean into education opportunities in the Bahamas.

Wild Dolphin Project

At Blue Lagoon Island our primary focus is not only education but also animal welfare. We are proudly a certified member of American Humane’s Humane Certified program, which sets a high standard for ensuring excellence in animal welfare. This certification allows us to educate visitors on how we care for our animals under human care. We train using positive reinforcement and enrichment. Through this approach our animals are flourishing and healthy in their natural environment.

Blue Lagoon Island provides memorable and teachable moments where enthusiasm, imagination, and passion comes alive in an intellectually stimulating environment while visiting with us, whether in person or virtually. In being a member of the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks & Aquariums, we can provide one-of-a-kind opportunities for educators and youth to explore the wealth of the ocean.

All our local education programs are operated under the patronage of our non-profit affiliate Dolphin Encounters-Project B.E.A.C.H., the Bahamas Education Association for Cetacean Health.

We have worked with many businesses to facilitate their marine concerns and support into marine education opportunities in the Bahamas.
