First-Time Visitor FAQs
Where is Blue Lagoon Island?
Blue Lagoon Island is located 2 miles northeast of Paradise Island and Nassau. Blue Lagoon Island is approximately 2.5 miles long and features a gorgeous natural lagoon near the eastern end where our facility is located. The beach scenes in the movie “Splash” were filmed on Blue Lagoon.
Are Blue Lagoon Island and Salt Cay the same place?
Yes. Blue Lagoon Island’s official name is actually Salt Cay. It got that name because of the super high salinity level in the natural lagoon’s water. Back in the days of piracy, pirates used to cull salt from the lagoon and trade it on the high seas.
How do I get there?
Once you have booked an excursion, you will be transported via one of our ferries to Blue Lagoon Island. Cruise passengers are picked up and dropped off at Nassau Cruise Port and locals and hotel/rental guests are picked up and dropped off at the Paradise Island Ferry Terminal on the harbourside behind our Welcome Center.
What excursions do you offer?
We offer something for everyone! You can enjoy a day of relaxing on the white sand beach and taking a dip in crystal clear waters with our Beach Day. Take it up a notch and get pampered with butler service, unlimited Bahama Mamas and an upscale buffet lunch in our Adults Only Beach Day. On the island side there’s also the Sip n Paint, the Eco Nature Walking Tour and the Salt Cay Historic Walking Tour. If you’re looking for an animal adventure, there are the Dolphin Encounter, Dolphin Swim, Royal Dolphin Swim, Sea Lion Encounter, Stingray Encounter and the Shark Encounter.
Can cruise passengers book directly on your website?
Cruise passengers should book their excursion directly through their ship’s Shorex platform. This way we can pick you up at the port and you’ll be sure to get back in time for your ship’s departure from Nassau.
How long is an excursion to Blue Lagoon Island?
Including the ferry rides to and from the island, you can expect your visit with us to last between 4 and 6 hours. Actual program times vary.

Please remember that the “Dolphin Swim” and “Sea Lion Encounter” program can be sold out weeks in advance, especially around U.S. holidays or during busy Spring and Summer seasons. What times do the boats depart?
The schedule changes from day to day, so please be sure to check your confirmation information. If we have to make a change on our end, we will reach out via telephone and email.
